  • Cichlid
    Description:
Worked the gully with a few bead heads, streamers and insect patterns this morning with minimal strikes. That changed as soon as I threw the clouser. Bass, gills and rios couldn't let it by without attacking.
    Bait:

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Chasing fish in skinny water again this morning. Landed a couple of bass, this one being the largest. Changed my tippet after this one; he had me wrapped up in the weeds then into a bunch of rocks. 5mph wind, 90*.

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Fishing Pecan Bayou outside of Brownwood. Lots of rain since my last trip, water is up about 10 feet downstream of the weir. Fished an eddy by a drain pipe, drifting the fly along current lines. Hooked this bass and 2 longears before retreating. More heavy rains coming and concerned about flood levels. Not in the mood for a ride downstream 😉

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Hit the gully for 45 minutes in between storms last night. Started with an orange clouser minnow and hooked up to a beast almost immediately. Fought him for a couple of minutes but got broke off on structure (an old shopping cart... have to love urban fishing). Retied and hooked up to this smaller but decent bass. Put up a great fight on the 3 weight.

  • Green Sunfish
    Description:
Orange and red were the colors yesterday. Managed a couple of decent greens by slow twitching along rock piles in 1-2FOW. Very light wind, 80*, stained water, fishing between electrical storm cells.

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Storms pushed back a few hours so I hit a local gully. 78*, zero wind and the top water bite was on fire. Tied on a grasshopper and the bass couldn't resist. Went with a larger pattern to avoid the sunfish this am. Had a few good runs and tail walks on the 3 wt. Good way to start the weekend.

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Snuck in 90 minutes of exploration along a gully before the storms roll in. Overcast with sunny breaks, 78* and wind from 0 up to 19mph. When the wind was low I had fun spot and stalk fishing. When it was blowing hard and destroying my vision I'd blind cast around vegetation and structure. Managed a few chunky bass up to about 1.5 lbs and a number of cichlids sporting some fine colors.

  • Cichlid
    Description:
Went back to the gully this morning to target larger cichlids. Upped my tippet as I was also throwing mice and frogs for bass. Managed to land a mixed bag of bass, sunfish and cichlids over an hour of fishing. Casting the nymph onto overhanging leaves and letting it fall into the water was the key this morning. Cichlids would nail it before the nymph could hit the bottom. Lots of fun on the 3wt

  • Longear Sunfish
    Description:
Landed a number of sunfish sporting breeding colors in the gully last night. Felt like I should have been in an episode of shark week. The bass were very aggressive and would try to put the hurt on any fish I caught. They would school up and chase the fish on the end of my line, jumping, popping, slurping and diving after a free lunch. Had me laughing and wishing I brought a GoPro.

  • Cichlid
    Description:
Walked up a small gully last night. It's usually the color of chocolate milk but is crystal clear right now, thanks to our dry conditions. Felt like stalking along an aquarium! Bass, sunfish, tilapia and Rio Grande Cichlids littered the gully. Had a blast fishing for about an hour. Caught my first cichlids on the fly. Saw some pairs in breeding colors, but didn't get any hook ups. I'll be back!

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Was looking forward to sleeping in after a long week, but conditions were too good to stay in bed. A perfect morning to chase bass. 55*, no wind and surprisingly no other fishermen. At the fishing hole before sunrise and was greeted by lots of surface feeding. Tied on a topwater and worked structure, overhanging trees and parallel to weed beds. Landed a few small bass over 45 minutes.

  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Took the family to a Shakespeare in the Park production of "All's well that ends well" tonight. Managed to get an hour with the fly rod before dark. Bass, crappie and bluegill were very active on top water. Favorite catch of the night was my first cast. Daughter and her friend assisted with the landing and release. Cold front brought 63* and winds to 18mph.
