  • Channel Catfish
    Description:
Worked a few more pools and eddies after catching the buffalo. Pulled a couple of young cats from pools under a drain pipe and from a root ball of a recently downed tree. Casted to the edge to the current and let the fly sink and get swept into the slack water. Another first for me was catching red shiner on the fly. Pulled a few males out from the pools. They looked good in their breeding colors
    Bait:
#12 Chiron bead head red butt 3 wt Sage VPS 8'6" Pfluger Trion Weight forward Floating line 6lb tapered leader 3.8lb tippet
  • Smallmouth Buffalo
    Description:
Short trip down the creek after work. Water level up about 3' with heavy current. Worked the eddy lines, looking for fish holding in the slack water. Only had a floating line with me, so added split shot to my tippet about 6" up from the fly. New species for me on the fly rod. What a fight! Figured I was going to lose him a few times between his spirit and the current. CPR.
    Bait:

  • Common Carp
    Description:
With Monday right around the corner, I booked a short therapy session. Walking along the creek when I saw a good sized V chasing bait fish. Figured it was a gar, so I scrambled to rig up for Mr. Toothy. Dropped the streamer about 5' in front of the V and let it drift into him. When my line stopped floating with the current I gave it a solid strip set. Not a gar, but a good fight on the 3 wt.
    Bait:
3 wt Sage VPS 8'6" Pfluger Trion Weight forward Floating line 6lb tapered leader 8" coated wire leader Small white and silver streamer
  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
First fish of the day, I caught it 2 hours ago but didn't have time to post.
    Bait:
    Berkleys power bait chigger craw
  • Bullhead Catfish
    Description:
Moved ponds and changed tactics as the sun set tonight. Caught the bottom cat working a streamer by a drain. Was expecting a bass to be hanging out in the eddy. It hit hard and got my heart racing. Second one came as I worked the nymph in 2.5 FOW. It had a large fresh wound on its right side. Looks like something almost made a meal out of him.
    Bait:
1" streamer and a nymph Sage 3wt Pflueger Trion 9' tapered leader 5.3lb tippet
  • Shad
    Description:
Creek is still over its banks and we have more rain coming tonight. Figured I'd get out with the fly rod before the next round of flooding. Headed up into some ponds along Cypress Creek. This was a first for me and a surprise. Was working the nymph in 2FOW by some overhanging trees when I hooked this gizzard shad. Figured it was a fluke, then landed a second one 20 minutes later.
    Bait:
#18 two bit hooker Sage 3wt Pflueger Trion 9' tapered leader 5.3lb tippet
  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
Top water propeller lure. Start and stop retrieve. 11:45 am.
  • Green Sunfish
    Description:
After getting blown off the ponds, decided to explore Pillot Gully. Flow was low and clear. Fish were spooky - bluebird sky and heavy winds meant lots of high speed shadows. Stalked up the creek and casted to structure and riffle bottoms. Was careful not to let the fish see me or shadows from my gear. Hooked up on 5 greens over 150yds of creek by being careful and working holding areas.
    Bait:
#18 two bit hooker Sage 3wt Pflueger Trion 2# tippet
  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
4 inches of rain turned on bass and crappie in neighborhood ponds, with spillways.
