  • Bigeye Jack
  • Yellow Fin Tuna
    Description:
Photo sent by customer in Hawaii of small yellow fin tuna saying aloha to a Nikko fluke minnow. This is Nikko's most popular bait in Hawaii.
    Bait:
Nikko 4.6" glow pink fluke minnow
  • Yellow Fin Tuna
    Description:
Went fishing of the coast of Kauai for ahi and Ono, but we didn't even get a strike and there were 6-8 ft swells so it was a rough day
    Bait:
    Trolling lures
  • Needle Fish
    Description:
After a really nice omilu broke me off on 40lb fluoro I switched to an 80lb mono leader. Casting around rocky shoreline and reef structure with a fast retrieve produced this needlefish. Fish jumped about 4' in the air during the strike.
    Bait:
Diawa sp floating minnow, 80lb mono leader- 50lb braid, 8'6" Diawa DXS rod, Diawa Lexa 300
  • Ballyhoo
    Description:
Hit the salt Hawaiian style today (stick and line tied to the end) and crossed a new species off the list. I caught a few dozen of these guys up and down the beach, but only took a pic of this one. Also caught a few small sardines but never bothered taking pictures of them. I used them as bait and had a lot of hookups with blacktips, but they kept breaking me off even with steel leaders.
    Bait:
    Sliced turkey
  • Smallmouth Bass
    Description:
Another nice smallmouth we got fishing upstream on a guided trip. He was sitting in a small current break behind a rock. He chomped on a dinger floating down by him. We also had a 5+ lb largemouth follow a fluke in but get spooked by the boat. Water was clear but high, and very cool. Fishing the Wailua River!
    Bait:
    Yum dinger wacky rigged
  • Largemouth Bass
    Description:
@seaturtles here's the only other fish we got today. The peacocks managed to avoid us today but tomorrow we will get them. We were fishing any slow moving water since the rest of the stream was fast. We also figured that peas wouldn't be in this fast, cool water. Water was clear, about 70°, and deep.
    Bait:
4" blue yum dinger wacky rigged
  • Smallmouth Bass
    Description:
First fish in Hawaii! We had brought our gear with us because we were going on a guides trip tomorrow. But, we saw a nice public stream in town and of course we had to try it out. I started off throwing a little Mepps spinner just trying to cover some water because we were short on time. I had this little fella come up and swipe at the Mepps and get barely hooked. Water was clear, cool, and deep.
    Bait:
    Mepps aglia
  • Skipjack
    Description:
couldn't get a good picture, they squirmed too much :( In addition to all the yellowfin, we caught a bunch of these guys. They almost fought harder, and really left my arm sore the next couple days. Fun and tasty!
    Bait:
    Rubber worms (again)
  • Yellow Fin Tuna
    Description:
It's been so long since I last fished! Went out to Kauai this spring break, went 13 miles offshore and caught this beauty, along with a dozen skipjack tuna. I don't know how much this guy weighed, but he was about 2 1/2 feet long. Fun day of fishing! A pic or two of the skipjacks to come. There was rain here and there, but it was mostly sunny, around 70°. We fished around the weather buoy.
    Bait:
    Rubber worms
  • Wahoo
    Bait:
    Feather
